Foil Drive Fusion | NORTH UHM80 Integrated Mast Bundle

This is my second Foil Drive system — my first was the Max. I’m an avid wing-foiler and originally bought Foil Drive to keep me on the water on light-wind days. What I didn’t expect was just how much fun I’d have surf-foiling without the wing, or how much it would improve my overall foiling ability.

Foiling hands-free, without a wing, has taken my balance, control and confidence to a whole new level. As a result, I now spend more time Foil Drive surf-foiling and downwinding than doing anything else. I absolutely love it.

I’ve since upgraded to the Fusion. While it’s slightly heavier than the Max, I barely notice that on the water. What I do notice is the extra power — which allows me to ride smaller foils and boards — and the significantly increased runtime. Being able to stay out for well over an hour without swapping batteries allows me to settle into an extended, unbroken flow state that’s rarely accessible outside a very high level of riding. I rarely fall now; instead I find myself in a kind of hypnotic, continuous loop of foil-surfing bliss.

The Fusion battery caddy is excellent, and the battery technology feels like a clear step forward compared with the Max. Overall, the system feels very well thought through and refined.

In short, I can’t recommend Foil Drive highly enough. It’s kept me on the water more than ever, made me fitter, happier, and a better surfer — and I’m over 50.
