sTANDARD vS hIGH pOWER
Foil Drive MAX and Slim Systems come with a Standard Motor however you do have the option to upgrade to a High Power Motor. This motor offers 20-25% more runtime through its improved efficiency, all for only an extra 160g/5.6ounces. Pair it with your existing V2 Cable, Mast Adaptor and Puck for seamless integration.
Two vs Three Blades
The Two Blade Propeller offers more top end speed where as the Three Blade offer more low end thrust. For most, the two blade is perfect, however if you are a heavier rider, or using smaller boards and foils, the three blade is a great upgrade! The Three Blade is also preferred for those with shorter motor positions, as the motor breaches the water, more propeller remains in the water at one time resulting in a smoother, quieter ride.
Motor Pods
Motor Pods are the piece that attach the motor to your mast. These are made up of two main parts, the Mast Adaptor and the Universal Motor Pod.
The Universal Motor Pod is the outer, injection moulded sleeve that forms a hydrodynamic shape that the motor can then be bolted to.
The Mast Adaptor is the internal, 3D printed part that is custom designed for each specific foil mast. We have a growing list of over 100 masts, each with a custom designed adaptor. You may ask why we don't have a universal, one size fits all, solution? This is because doing so would require a bulky shape and would not be hydrodynamic or provide a strong, stiff connection to your mast..
Additional Mast adaptors can be purchased and all fit inside the outer Universal Motor Pod.
Note: Custom Mast Adaptors are only required for masts that do not fit within the Universal Adaptor. Prior to the Universal Adaptor, we sold mast specific adaptors, view them here.
What if there is no Adaptor for my Mast?
While we do have an extensive range of Mast Adaptors, if your mast is not listed you you can read more about the process here, then send us an email to support@foildrive.com
How do I know I have the right Mast Adaptor?
We have an extensive list available that notes each brand and the mast name against a Motor Pod Number. If you are unsure which mast you have, we highly recommend taking the measurements listed on this list and crosschecking them against the measurements of your mast.
Note: Although the measurements of a different brand may match your mast, this does not guarantee the fitment as the physical shape my be different.
Can a Gen1 Motor be converted to a Gen2 Motor with a Plug?
