Foil Drive MOTOR SYSTEMS
Our Universal Motor Systems seamlessly integrate with your existing gear, allowing for quick adaptation to different setups in just minutes. Additionally, Foil Drive features Integrated Masts that provide a streamlined design for optimal performance and efficiency on the water.
Motor Systems
v2 motor systems
V2 Motors mount externally to your mast and feature a removable cable. This means you can easily change the motor height through the simple removal and installation of different cable lengths! Cables are available in six lengths: 12cm (4.7"), 15cm (6"), 20cm (8"), 25cm (10"), 60cm (23.5"), and 70cm (27.5").
Integrated Masts
Integrated Masts are highly desired within the Foil Drive community because they improve performance, reduce drag, and enhance ride feel. With more brands on the horizon, we currently offer both Gen1 and Gen2 systems integrated with fixed motor positions.
Note: Motors cannot be removed from the mast. These masts are designed specifically for Foil Drive.
Foil Drive motors operate on a sophisticated design that combines efficiency and durability, featuring a rotor and stator configuration. The rotor, which rotates to generate thrust, is paired with a stationary stator that creates a magnetic field to power the motor. This interaction between the rotor and stator propels the foil through the water. However, they require cleaning and maintenance to ensure reliable foiling for as long as possible!
Internally, Foil Drive motors are equipped with high-quality ceramic and stainless steel bearings, which enhance performance and longevity. Ceramic bearings are lightweight and provide reduced friction, allowing for smoother operation and increased efficiency. Meanwhile, stainless steel bearings offer excellent corrosion resistance, making them ideal for marine environments. This combination of materials ensures that Foil Drive motors can withstand the rigors of water sports while delivering consistent power and performance for an exceptional foiling experience.
Motor Pods are the pieces that attach the motor to your mast. These consist of two main parts: the Mast Adaptor and the Universal Motor Pod.
The Universal Motor Pod is the outer, injection-molded sleeve that forms a hydrodynamic shape to which the motor can then be bolted.
The Mast Adaptor is the internal, 3D-printed part that is custom-designed for each specific foil mast. We have a growing list of over 100 masts, each with a custom-designed adaptor. You might wonder why we don't have a universal, one-size-fits-all solution? This is because such a solution would require a bulky shape and would not be hydrodynamic or provide a strong, stiff connection to your mast.
Additional Mast Adaptors can be purchased, and all fit inside the outer Universal Motor Pod.
Note: Custom Mast Adaptors are only required for masts that do not fit within the Universal Adaptor. Prior to the Universal Adaptor, we sold mast-specific adaptors, which you can view here.
FAQs
While we do have an extensive range of Mast Adaptors, if your mast is not listed you you can read more about the process here, then send us an email to support@foildrive.com
We have an extensive list available that notes each brand and the mast name against a Motor Pod Number. If you are unsure which mast you have, we highly recommend taking the measurements listed on this list and crosschecking them against the measurements of your mast.
Note: Although the measurements of a different brand may match your mast, this does not guarantee the fitment as the physical shape my be different.
Existing Gen1 Units cannot currently be converted to Gen2 Motor Systems with a plug.
